On The Road
by Jack Kerouac
Book Read on 8 / 3 / 2009
Number 55 out of the top 100.
The book was entertaining. It was mostly about drinking, chasing women and trying to crisscross the country.
I am not sure how much it tapped the pulse of the beat generation, or if it is an anthem for those people, but it was a pleasant yarn, if not a classic.
The narrative style was sort of a jazz improvisation; sometimes it was really suitable for the narrative and other times the style felt a bit forced and impotent. I am glad I read it, but not sure if I will read it again, or if I would recommend it when there are so many other books which are worth reading.
