Amazon Watershed

by George Mobiot
Book Read on 29 / 9 / 2007
This is the second Monbiot book that I've read, and I've had my fill of him for a while. Thought I thought it was really interesting to read about the Amazon. However, it was like the end of all those nature shows, where they say "There is only one predator of the xyz animal, the most dangerous predator of all... man". Ok ok, we get it. Instead of just giving everyone vague feelings of guilt, none of these programs have a lot of practical advice. For example if they said, "so don't use plastic bags at the grocery store". Or... "stop eating emu meat". But unfortunately life isn't that easy. Paper or plastic could be translated to mean: do you want to cut down trees and contribute to global warming and the destruction of all life on the planet. or do you want to use hydrocarbons and contribute to global warming and the destruction of life on the planet. It's depressing. I suppose there are some people in the world who thinking that global warming is a hoax. OR that it might be not be a bad thing. ("See you at the beach!") But the majority of people on the planet know that wasting things is "bad". Actually the majority of people on the planet don't have much stuff to waste. A simple solution would be to impound all the hummers in the world. IT would send a clear message to the people who don't get it, and let us learn about sharks without the guilt. That was a rant, not a review. I guess what I"m trying to say is "I get it, ok! Do you have any concrete solutions?" Who do I donate to?
