Speed Tribes

by Karl Taro Greenfeld
Book Read on 16 / 9 / 2003
This book started with a rather ominous proposition: the Japanese bubble. It stated that real estate was rising dramatically and people were taking the equity out and putting it in the stock market. Hmm. Sounds a bit like now, doesnít it? Then the book talks about the Yakuza, the Bosozoku (or speed tribes), Hackers, Hostesses, Pornstars, Right-Wing Wackos, etc. All of this lead up to other ominous prognostications, saying that the hackers and virtual reality-ists are the future. People will stop having sex, etc. The book is old, almost 10 years, and some of this turned out to be crap. But the book was well written, so I do have to give him points. There was no real action, just the threat of possible action.
