Life of Pi

by Yann Martel
Book Read on 20 / 7 / 2003
I liked how it started off. It was an interesting treatment of comparative religion and really got me thinking about to some things. Then bits of it faded into obscurity, certainly the island of celery -- that was a bit over the top. I am sure there is a deep and beautiful metaphor in there, but at that point the rhythm of the book had been so compromised that I didn't feel like looking for it. I felt like my attention had been jarred and there was no going back. An island that eats people... hmm, the profundity seemed laughable. Don't worry, I didnít ruin it, you know the story has ěa happy ending" from the beginning. I did like the book, though. Up until the island. No, up until he starts talking to the cook. Thatís when I thought it fell apart.
