I think I am reading Micheal Crichton books mostly as an excercise in how to make readable fiction. He uses a lot of cliches for his characters and also he tends to have flat personalities, i.e. bad guys really bad, good guys pretty good with weaknesses. However, I do like the way he makes you think about new science and technology and he is also adept at his pacing of the stories. For example, the book starts with him counting down the time until something happens. In this case batteries dying. This is a nice way to put bookends around a story, similar to how I thought about my own idea of BPM. The story of the death of a raver within 24 hours, but with the chapter numbers being heartrate. This book was about time travel as a way to make money via ultra-real disney worlds. A stupid concept, but an interesting use of quantum physics.
